Hamas spokesperson Abdel Latif al-Qanoa condemned the move as an infringement upon the rights of the Palestinian people and described Sierra Leon’s position as deplorable, Palestinian media reported on Saturday.
He said that such a move “gives the Israeli occupation army and colonial settlers the green light to continue their violations and theft of the Palestinian territory,” particularly in occupied Al-Quds.
The Hamas official urged the Sierra Leonean government to backtrack on its decision and endorse the just Palestinian cause.
The Sierra Leonean president made the announcement on Friday, a day after he had a conversation with the Zionist regime’s foreign minister Eli Cohen, Israeli media reported.
The West African nation would be the sixth country to open an embassy in occupied Al-Quds, after the US, Guatemala, Honduras and Kosovo did so. Also, Panama has recently said that it would reopen an embassy in Al-Quds, which Palestinians see as the capital of their future independent state.
