Figures published in FAO’s global food outlook report showed that Iran produced around 13 million metric tons (mt) of wheat in 2022, up 25% from last year.
The report said increased output enabled Iran to cut back on its wheat imports bill as shipments dropped 37% to 5 million mt this year.
Iran’s wheat storage also surged to 8.5 million mt this agricultural year, said the report, adding that wheat has accounted for nearly 77% of Iran’s total grains storage in 2022.
FAO figures showed that Iran’s total grains output increased by 16% in 2022 to reach 19.5 million mt.
