Iranian negotiating team insists on closing Iran’s safeguard case: Iran MP

Tehran, IRNA - Rapporteur of Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Abolfazl Amouei said on Wednesday that the Iranian negotiating team insists that for having a sustainable deal, the safeguards case should be closed.

Referring to the negotiations in Vienna, Amouei said that the details of the talks were reviewed in presence of Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani, Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, Iran’s Top Nuclear Negotiator Ali Bagheri Kani and Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Mohammad Eslami on Wednesday.

Terming removal of sanctions as a significant point in the law of strategic action, Amouei added that all representatives also emphasized lifting sanctions.

He termed the country's economic benefits a key point in the negotiations, stating that economic profit means that Iran's foreign trade barriers should be removed and illegal restrictions on oil sales are lifted. Alongside, Iran must have access to oil sales resources to meet the needs of its nations.

Stating that guarantees and verification are two new issues in the negotiations, he underlined that the agreement currently being pursued is the decision of the Joint Commission to revive the 2015 agreement. As the deal was violated by the illegal US withdrawal and ultimately Iran dropped its commitments. So if "we want to go back" to the terms of 2015, there should be a guarantee that the parties that want to do economic and trade work with Iran would not be affected by sanctions.

Pointing to some defects of the last agreement, Amouei said that one of the main flaws of the previous agreement was the issue of verification which had not been considered, while this principle is now accepted to take both a timeframe for verification of sanctions removal and various measures to ensure that Iran can verify that sanctions are continually lifted.

Earlier, the US and three European countries of Britain, Germany, and France offered an anti-Iran draft resolution to the IAEA BoG based on allegations made by the Zionist regime on Iranian nuclear activities.

The anti-Iran resolution was approved with 30 votes in favor, two votes against (Russia and China), and three abstentions (India, Libya, and Pakistan).

In reaction to the approval of the resolution, the Islamic Republic of Iran halted certain collaborations with the IAEA, which were beyond safeguards agreements and were conducted by Iranians to show their good faith.

The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) issued a statement, declaring that the Islamic Republic has so far shown extensive cooperation with the IAEA, which has not been appreciated, so the AEOI decided that beyond safeguards cameras measuring On-Line Enrichment Monitor (OLEM) and flowmeter to be deactivated from today.

Amouei reiterated that the Iranian negotiating team insists that for having a sustainable deal, safeguards case should be closed.
