Iranians in UK, Bulgaria cast votes in presidential election

London, June 18, IRNA – Iranians in the UK and Bulgaria cast their votes on Friday in voting centers provisioned for the 13th presidential election in Iran.

12 ballot boxes have been situated in 11 voting centers in 7 cities throughout the UK. Six ballot boxes are in five voting centers in different districts of London and six other boxes are in the cities, Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle, Glasgow, Leeds, and Cardiff, IRNA correspondent in London reported.

Voting polls will be open until 19:00 local time and voters have to wear masks in accordance with health protocols in the UK, per the report.

Also, Iran’s Embassy in Sofia, Bulgaria, has prepared a voting poll stationed in the building of the embassy for Iranians in Bulgaria to be able to vote in the presidential election.

Iran’s presidential election is being held nationwide as well as in 133 countries.59,310,307 Iranians are eligible to vote, from which 1.3 million are first-voters and 3.5 million are Iranians abroad, according to statistics from the Ministry of Interior.

Some 500 international journalists from 226 foreign media are covering the event in Iran.

Presidential candidates include Expediency Discernment Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei Mirqaed, Judiciary Chief Ebrahim Raeesi, MP Amir-Hossein Ghazizadeh, and former Governor of the Central Bank Abdolnaser Hemmati. Saeed Jalili, Mohsen Mehralizadeh, and Alireza Zakani, three other presidential candidates, dropped out of the presidential race.

The 13th presidential election is held simultaneous with the sixth round of city and village councils elections, the first mid-term for the 11th parliament’s by-election, and the second mid-term for the fifth Assembly of Experts election.
