“Salamat Hospital of Ahvaz has been totally evacuated because of the possibility of inundation,” Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences said on Monday.
A public relations officer at the University said all 110 patients, who had been hospitalized at Salamat Hospital, have been transferred to two other regional hospitals.
Salamat Hospital of Ahvaz is located on kilometer 7 of a road that connects the provincial capital Ahvaz to the nearby city of Andimeshk. Built in 1997, it’s dedicated to the treatment of mentally-ill people.
The evacuation comes as a new wave of floods is encroaching on large cities in Khouzestan. Officials have issued warnings to the residents of hundreds of villages and cities, that lie on the banks of two rivers Karkhe and Dez, to evacuate their homes in a bid to avoid fatalities or further damages. However, there are reports that hundreds of people are staying at their homes in spite of their warnings.
A sum of 210 villages and six cities in Khouzestan, the latest scene of devastating floods, have been inundated. An emergency situation has been declared in the province.
Red Crescent Society of Iran, armed forces as well as civil societies are all mobilized to help the people affected by the flash floods that have wreaked havoc in dozens of Iranian provinces. 70 people have lost their lives, thousands have been injured and many others have been left homeless.
