Iranian researchers write 53,000 articles in 21 years: ISC

Tehran, March 17, IRNA - An Iranian official said that the country's researchers have written 53,000 articles in various areas over the past 21 years.

In an interview with Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) on Sunday, Head of the Islamic World Science Citation Center Mohhamad Javad Dehqani referred to Iran’s rank in producing scientific articles in the world as 16, and said that the number of Iran's scientific articles was 1,000 articles in 1997, which was increased to 53,000 articles in 2018, showing a 23 percent increase.

Providing statistics on the production of articles in Iran over the past 21 years, he said, 'The year 1997 was the start of the Iranian scientific movement in the world, and Iran published about 1,000 articles in international databases, the official highlighted.

Head of the Regional Center for Dissemination of Science and Technology said that this growth was expected and anticipated due to an increase in specialist human resources and graduate programs. Iran ranked 47th in the world in 1997, but now we are in the 16th rank in the world.

“In addition, Iran ranked first in scientific articles’ growth among the Islamic countries. The success and development of the country is due to increase in number of academic centers, the number of students and the number of articles,' he added.

Dehqan stressed that this issue is considered as extreme in the work, and 'we should not link all the progress and scientific movements of Iran to the quantity in higher education. We must strive to keep this achievement from the point of view of opportunity, and to take into account other qualitative indicators and attention to articles with special status, because these articles are used by the world.'
