US Navy disciplines 4 sailors for entering Iranian waters

Tehran, Aug 10, IRNA – United States Navy punished four American sailors who entered Iranian territorial waters in January.

Navy Times on Tuesday reported that the US Navy disciplined the four American sailors involved in the boat seizure incident in Iran.

Ten American sailors were arrested in January by the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC). They, who illegally entered Iran's territorial waters in Farsi Land, were freed after the country apologized to Iran for that illegal entry.

Two of the sailors have been disciplined for and found guilty of 'disobeying a superior and dereliction of duty,' the Navy Times reported.

The third one was not found guilty of dereliction of duty, and the fourth 'was taken to admiral's mast' as the Navy Times said.

'…shoddy navigation, maintenance shortfalls and a baffling lack of oversight created a maelstrom of errors that led to two US Navy patrol boats being seized at gunpoint in Iranian territorial waters,' Navy Times added.

The US Navy has not referred to names of its sailors.
