Time running out for West

Tehran, IRNA - The European trio (Britain, France and Germany) has put forward the issue of limited time to reach an agreement on reviving the 2015 nuclear deal and lifting anti-Iran sanctions, but in fact the Western powers are the ones that should keep up their end of bargain, Iran Newspaper reported.

Iran Newspaper published a memo on Sunday, emphasizing that:

The European trio keep playing unbalanced and preplanned game in the Vienna talks, claiming that the pace of negotiations is slow and time for reaching a consensus is restricted.

The European officials said earlier that representatives of Iran, European Union, and the P4+1, including Britain, France, Russia, China plus Germany, have got technical breakthroughs in the last round of talks in Vienna, Austria, and that the negotiating teams should focus on key outstanding issues especially lifting sanctions and reviving nuclear deal.

The European Troika insists on introducing themselves as brokers, not negotiators, in order to have a say in the pace of negotiations, while the Islamic Republic has proposed legal and technical demands in the Vienna talks.

The European sides are considered as the signatories to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), but they did not abide by their commitments under the deal and their mechanism to keep the agreement alive following the United States' unilateral withdrawal from the JCPOA has borne no fruit so far.

However, the Iranian negotiating team has time and again mentioned that representatives from the three European powers are expected to focus on their neglected commitments and stop proposing unrelated issues such as timeline.

It seems that the Europeans insist on the pace of reaching an agreement to utilize it as a tool to prevent Iran from acquiring its full rights in respect of nuclear program and economic benefits of the JCPOA. In other words, the Europeans want to sacrifice negotiating table for the sake of external lobbies.

Western players are well aware that they do not have a say in terms of legal and technical procedure in the Vienna talks because of the US withdrawal from the JCPOA and their own inaction to keep the deal alive, so they labor hard to portray Iran as the party that is responsible for the current situation of the deal.

Unlike what the European officials want to show, the real process of lifting anti-Iran sanctions and reviving the JCPOA is completely clear. Then, the Western side has no choice but accepting realities on the ground and make amend for their pullout from the internationally recognized agreement, because as they themselves said time is running out.
