Tehran, IRNA – Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian are scheduled to meet in Tehran on Tuesday.

The meeting will take place as part of Haniyeh’s visit to Tehran during which he also plans to have separate meetings with some other Iranian officials.

Many see Haniyeh’s Tehran visit as significant as it comes a day after passing a resolution at the UN Security Council calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

Hamas has insisted on its stance put forward on March 14 which urges the need for a complete cessation of war, withdrawal of Zionist forces from Gaza, return of refugees, and exchange of prisoners.

It holds Netanyahu accountable for the defeat of previous efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
