Tehran, IRNA – Cuban Ambassador to Tehran Alberto González Casals appreciated Iran’s aid to put out a fire in oil facilities in the Cuban city of Matanzas.

Speaking exclusively with IRNA, the ambassador said that as soon as Cuba asked for help, the Iranian government voiced readiness to step in and help extinguish the fire.

He said that experts from the Iranian Ministry of Petroleum are still in Cuba to assess the damages and to share their experiences to deal with such conditions.

Cuba will never forget Iran's help and will remain grateful forever, Ambassador González Casals said.

Noting that Cuba is making efforts to promote tourism relations with Iran, the ambassador urged the need to find an airline to operate a direct flight between Tehran and Havana.

He, however, said that Iran and Cuba have been under tough sanctions for long years which have infected transportation issues and travels to both countries.

The ambassador believed that once the transportation conditions of Iran and Cuba are improved, tourism conditions will consequently improve in a significant way.
