Iranian team dispatched to help extinguish Cuba oil tanks fire: Min.

Tehran, IRNA – Minister of Petroleum of the Islamic Republic of Iran Javad Owji has said that a team of experts has been sent to Cuba in order to put out the fire in storage tanks of crude oil in the Latin American country.

Owji made the remarks on the sidelines of the cabinet meeting, while addressing reporters in Tehran on Wednesday.

The Iranian minister said that the storage tank of crude oil near Havana caught fire last week, so the Islamic Republic of Iran, which cooperates with the Latin American country in this regard, dispatched a team of HPC specialists with the aim of quenching the fire and distinguishing the tanks.

The minister went on to say that the operation of putting out the fire has been effective.

On August 8, a lightning struck a storage tank of crude oil at the Matanzas Super Tanker Base, 55 miles east of Havana, causing a large fire and explosion.

Over 5,000 people have been evacuated, more than 120 people are injured, and many firefighters are missing.

A cloud of toxic smoke moves into Cuba's western provinces, where people have been advised to wear masks and stay indoors.

Long power cuts because of petroleum shortages have made the situation more difficult.
