Tehran, IRNA – President of Iran’s Red Crescent Society said that Iran has been offering different types of services to refugees despite the sanctions imposed on the country.

Speaking at the Humanitarian Leadership Conference on Tuesday, Pir-Hossein Koulivand said that Iran has been located in a critical region in terms of moving population, refugees and immigrants.

Iran is a destination of immigration because of common beliefs and culture with its neighboring countries and its good living opportunities and it has constantly been involved with the issue of refugees and immigration, Koulivand noted.

He underlined that over four million refugees are now living in Iran and they have been offered various services despite the coronavirus pandemic and the sanctions imposed against Iran.

IRCS president also said that the body has played a pivotal role in supporting refugees and immigrants, especially through vaccination during the pandemic.

He noted that sanctions have caused limitations on the IRCS’ access to international humanitarian aids, impacting the process of helping refugees.

Koulivand urged all leaders in the conference to help remove the sanctions.
