Tehran, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said in a meeting with International Committee of the Red Cross President Peter Maurer that US sanctions against Iran were inhumane.

Amirabdollahian thanked the ICRC for their help to find remains of Iranian martyrs during Iran-Iraq war and their limited but valuable assistance to fight against the coronavirus spread.

He outlined Iran’s efforts to help the displaced in Afghanistan and also vaccinations of Afghan refugees in Iran, despite the pressure on the country.

Iran’s top diplomat castigated international human rights bodies for their silence against US sanctions, underlining that the sanctions were inhumane and a terrorist act against Iranian people and should be rejected by all.

ICRC President Peter Maurer praised Iran’s close help to the body and its generous hospitality toward Afghan refugees.

He said that the ICRC was an important source of assistance and distributor of humanitarian aid in Afghanistan and the body has tried to expand its helps to health infrastructure.

Maurer also pointed to the entity’s continuous efforts in Yemen, warning that its activity becomes increasingly difficult and the blockade imposed on the country has caused crushing economic pressure on people.
