Iranian Arbaeen pilgrims who had traveled to the holy shrines of Shia Imams in Iraq over the past three weeks are returning to Iran via the Khosravi border crossing in Kermanshah province. This border crossing, located in Qasr-e Shirin county, is an important gateway for pilgrims as it is only 300 kilometers away from the holy city of Karbala, where Imam Hussain’s holy shrine is located. Arbaeen pilgrims crossing Khosravi border point
The Khosravi border crossing between Iran and Iraq, which is located in the Iranian city of Qasr-e Shirin, is 300 kilometers away from the Iraqi city of Karbala; so, the border crossing is one of the main points to reach Imam Hossein’s holy shrine. Some 287,219 Iranian pilgrims have crossed the border point for Iraq in just eight days leading up to Arbaeen mourning day. Shia Muslims worldwide mark the Arbaeen or the 40th day after the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hossein (AS). (IRNA photos/Bahman Zarei)
