The Caspian horse, a small horse breed native to northern Iran, has expanded its fame across the globe and become a symbol of Iran's Gilan Province. The origins of Caspian horse could be traced back to 5,000 years ago; it is considered among the oldest horse breeds in the world. The breed is said to be the ancestor of today's warmblood horses and is dispersed in geographical extend spanning from Behshahr in eastern Mazandaran Province to Talesh in western Gilan Province in northern Iran.
