Iran’s Taremi nominated for UEFA Europa League Player of Week

Tehran, IRNA – Iranian striker Mehdi Taremi, who played outstandingly in Porto vs Lazio play-off, was put on the list of candidates for the UEFA Europa League Player of the Week.

Mehdi Taremi was one of the pillars who helped his team, Porto, to reach the 1/8 finals.

He was yellow-carded for a foul on him which was considered a simulation by the referee. However, after a look at the pitchside monitor, the referee announced a penalty kick for Porto. Taremi converted the penalty.

Once again, in the 68th minute, the lethal Iranian striker shone and passed a perfect chip to his teammate Matheus Uribe who scored the second goal of his team.

Lazio also scored two goals in the game (Ciro Immobile 19’, Danilo Cataldi 90+5') which came to an end 2-2. But as Porto had won the first leg game 2-1, they advanced to the 1/8 finals 4-3 on aggregate.

The other players on the list are Portuguese Ricardo Horta (Braga), English James Tavernier (Rangers F.C.), and Ukrainian Ruslan Malinovskyi (Atalanta B.C.).
