Tehran, IRNA - The Syrian ambassador to Iran has hailed the recent punitive action taken by the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps against the Zionist regime, saying the operation dubbed "True Promise” was a Tehran’s legitimate response to the Israeli aggression within the framework of the right to self-defense.

Shafiq Dayoub said the Israeli attack on Iran’s consulate in Damascus was a clear violation of international laws and the provisions of the Vienna Convention and added to the list of crimes the Zionist regime has committed in the besieged Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank over the past 6 months, according to IRNA citing the website of the Tehran-based World Assembly of Islamic Awakening.

These crimes are committed with the endless support of the United States and some its allies for the Zionist regime and in the wake of the international community’s inability to stop these crimes, he said.

Dayoub said that Iran acted wisely and responsibly before and after the operation, and restrained itself while waiting for the explicit and decisive international condemnation including from the UN Security Council against the attack on its consulate, which enjoys complete immunity.

The Syrian ambassador, while expressing his country’s solidarity with the people of Iran, strongly condemned the Israeli aggression against the Iranian consulate in Damascus and all the attacks and crimes committed by the regime against Syria and the Palestinian people.

He also warned about the danger of continued Israeli policy, saying the regime’s actions and attacks are detrimental to regional and international peace and security.

Operation "True Response" is of great importance from the geopolitical point of view and perhaps a huge turning point which will definitely bear results, Dayoub said.
