Tehran, IRNA - Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has described the Israeli regime as the root cause of war and tension in the West Asia region.

Amirabdollahian made the remarks in a phone call with his Indonesian counterpart, Retno Marsudi, on Tuesday, during which the two sides discussed the latest regional developments and the state of bilateral relations between Tehran and Jakarta.

The foreign minister reiterated that Iran's retaliatory strike against the Israeli regime was in accordance with international law.

The Iranian Armed Forces launched a massive drone and missile barrage against the Israeli occupied territories on Saturday night in response to the regime's terrorist attack on Iran's diplomatic mission in Syria early this month.

"The root cause of tension and war in the region is the Israeli regime," Amirabdollahian said.

He expressed gratitude towards Indonesia for condemning the Israeli aggression against the Iranian embassy building in Damascus, and also for its support for the Palestinians cause.

Marsudi, for her part, called for continued consultation with Iran regarding the Palestinian issue.

The two sides also reviewed some matters of interest in bilateral relations between Iran and Indonesia.
