Tehran, IRNA - Ireland’s Foreign Minister Micheal Martin has termed the malnutrition of children in Gaza as a crime and scandal.

Martin made the comments at an event in Dublin with EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Janez Lenarcic.

Ireland's deputy premier, in his remarks, urged Israel "to show humanity" and allow more aid into Gaza.

Currently, half of the population of Gaza is facing famine and the other half is struggling with food insecurity, Martin said, adding that the malnutrition of children in Gaza is a crime and a scandal.

In this situation, "I ask Israel (regime) to show its humanity in facilitating entry, show humanitarian aid to Gaza," he emphasized.

EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Janez Lenarcic, for his part, described the situation in Gaza as a tragic disaster.

He said: "We in the European Union are doing everything to send humanitarian aid to Gaza, and we even refrain from sending this aid by air or sea, and these methods are inefficient and sometimes even dangerous."
