Tehran, IRNA - Iran and Russia are expected to sign six cooperation documents as officials from both sides attend the 17th session of the joint intergovernmental committee of economic cooperation.

According to IRNA's report from the Ministry of Petroleum, Javad Owji, Iran’s oil minister, and Alexander Novak, deputy prime minister of Russia, reviewed steps taken in various economic fields, especially in the oil and gas sector.

The state of bilateral cooperation in other areas, including transportation, housing, and free trade zones, was also examined at the committee session.

Owji began the session by stressing the cooperation between Iran and Russia in the oil and gas sector. “Considering the importance of cooperation between the two countries in the oil industry, negotiations will be conducted in this regard,” he said.

Novak said Russian and Iranian presidents identified energy as a key topic for bilateral cooperation when President Ebrahim Raisi of Iran visited Moscow late last year.
