Tehran, IRNA – A Belgian media and political activist has called for launching a campaign to discredit fake news in the wake of attempts in the West to spread lies especially on the war in Gaza.

Addressing a meeting held as part of programs at the 24th Iran Media Expo, Michel Collon said on Wednesday that a campaign and even a war is needed to be launched against fake news, because Western media outlets use “techniques of lies” to impress their audience, especially on the wars in Gaza and Ukraine.

The Belgian activist said that such techniques were used to distort the public thoughts on the Operation Al-Aqsa Storm and portray it as a crime against civilians and hide the fact that the October 7 operation targeted Israeli military forces.

A large number of Israeli forces were killed in that operation, but this has been ignored in the West and the focus has been on other issues instead, he added, and also referred to the so-called Hannibal Directive which allows Israeli forces to kill their counterparts to prevent their captivity.

Collon also cited examples showing how Western media outlets, and in some cases Israeli media, used fake images to accuse Palestine’s Hamas Resistance Movement of committing crimes against civilians including children.

When someone in the West talks against Israel, they would be accused of antisemitism, the Belgian activist said.
