Tehran, IRNA - Several explosions heard in the east of the Iraqi capital Baghdad late on Wednesday with some media reports suggesting they were caused by missile strikes on the city.

A journalist working for the Al-Mayadeen network reported that three missiles were seen in the skies over Al-Baladiyat and Zeyouneh, the two neighborhoods in Baghdad.

He said that a civilian vehicle was hit by the missiles that was also confirmed by Al Jazeera which said that the car believed to be carrying a figure from Iraqi resistance groups but did not give the detail.

The Sabrin News Telegram channel also reported that a column of smoke rose into the air from al-Rasafa area, located in the east of Baghdad.

Meanwhile, an American official on the condition of anonymity told Al Jazeera that the attack on Iraq was carried out by the United States.

“We confirm that the American forces carried out an attack in Iraq today”, he said without giving further detail.

The US Department of Defense also said it is aware of the reports of attacks in Baghdad and an official whose name was not disclosed was quoted as saying that the Pentagon would inform about it at the appropriate time.

According to media reports, a car in eastern Baghdad was targeted by a drone attack and three occupants of the car were killed.

Unconfirmed reports report the martyrdom of three members of Kataib Hezbollah, including Abu Baqer al-Saadi, one of the commanders of Al-Hashd al-Shaabi.

Some officials of this media probably consider it a drone.
