Dezful, IRNA – Located in Khuzestan province, Dezful will be announced as the world city of Kapu weaving (coiled wicker) in the presence of 11 ambassadors from different countries soon, a local tourism official has said.

In an exclusive interview with IRNA on Monday, Hamidreza Khadem said that Iran will announce Dezful as the world city of Kapu weaving on January 11, 2024, with the presence of Iran’s Vice President, Minister of Cultural Heritage and 11 ambassadors from different countries, including India, Turkiye, Oman, Qatar, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Kuwait, Malaysia, Italy, Spain, and Saudi Arabia.

Stating that choosing Dezful as the world city of Kapu weaving in the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is a significant event, Khadem underlined that the unveiling ceremony will be held by using the utmost potential of the city.

Referring to the capacities in the field of Kapu weaving in Dezful, he underlined that the Kapu weaving industry has created three thousand jobs in this city and the number of people working in this field will increase due to receiving this title.

Last year, Dezful was nominated for the title of the world city of Kapu weaving, which after many investigations by UNESCO observers, it was finally named as the world city of Kapu, he noted.
