Tehran, IRNA – Six Iranian fishermen have been released from prison in the Seychelles with the efforts of the embassy of the Islamic Republic in Madagascar.

Hassan Ali-Bakhshi, Iran’s accredited ambassador to Madagascar, said on Monday that the fisherman had been imprisoned for carrying prohibited goods and trespassing into the territorial waters of the Seychelles.

“As soon as we learned about the arrest of the Iranian citizens, the embassy pursued their case and release through diplomatic channels, and fortunately, they were released today and flew to our country after being detained for more than a year,” he said.

Ali-Bakhshi also said that a number of individuals who were onboard a barge are still imprisoned in this country and efforts are underway to free them as well.
