Brigadier-General Heydari made the remarks at a meeting with Oleg Leonidovich Salyukov, the commander-in-chief of the Russian ground forces, in Moscow on Monday.
During the talks, the two commanders agreed to increase military cooperation between the ground forces of Iran and Russia and execute projects that will enhance their combat readiness.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran is one of the key countries of the Middle East and a strategic partner of Russia,” Gen. Salyukov said.
The Russian commander added that Moscow and Tehran are currently engaged in deep political discussions to further strengthen bilateral relations.
Prior to the meeting, General Heydari, accompanied by Salyukov, visited the tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Kremlin Wall in the Alexander Garden, paying his respects by presenting a wreath.
On Sunday, the first day of his trip to Moscow, the Iranian commander also visited Iran’s stand at Russia’s international Army 2023 exhibition in the Patriot Park on the outskirts of Moscow.
