The government that came to power in Pakistan with American support has decided to suspend the Iran-Pakistan Gas Pipeline project by justifying the US sanctions on Iran, announcing the state policy related to the Iran-Pakistan gas project in parliament.
Pakistan is incapable of completing this project, Federal Minister of State for Oil and Gas Mossadegh Malik said in a written reply to a question raised by Maulana Jamaluddin, a member of Fazlur Rehman’s party in the National Assembly.

Iran and Vietnam have the potential to boost their ties to achieve a bilateral trade volume of up to $1 billion in the near term, an Iranian businessman said Tuesday as Vuong Dinh Hue, chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly, commenced a three-day official visit to Tehran.
“If cooperation is effectively pursued and the prevailing challenges are successfully addressed, the bilateral trade between the two nations could swiftly ascend to the milestone of $1 billion,” Mostafa Mousavi, the head of the Iran-Vietnam Joint Chamber of Commerce, told Iran Daily.

-- Japan to Host Iranian Film Week
The 6th edition of the Iranian Film Week will be held through Aug. 10-14 in Japan, screening eight Iranian movies. ‘The Warden’, ‘Leaf of Life’, ‘Gholamreza Takhti’ and ‘The Situation of Mehdi’ are among the films.
“In view of the common cultural commonalities and the existence of similar historical and bio-social cultural experiences between the two nations, we hope that the field of cinema and film will be useful as an effective tool in the development of cultural diplomacy of the two countries,” Ali Saadat-Azar, Iran’s cultural consultant in Japan, said.
-- Italy’s Imago Festival Awards Two Iranian Films
The 2nd edition of the International Imago Film Festival in Italy has awarded two Iranian films.
The ‘Casablanca Award’ for the best foreign movie went to Setareh Eskandari’s ‘The Sun of That Moon’. The director also received the ‘Stanley Kubrick Award’ for best foreign film director.
Parinaz Izadyar, star of Hamidreza Qorbani’s ‘Bone Marrow’, won the ‘Lauren Bacall Award’ for Best Foreign Film Lead Actress. The ‘Billy Wilder Award’ for Best Foreign Film Screenplay was also presented to Ali Zarnegar, writer of ‘Bone Marrow’.
-- Tehran Conference Examines Iran’s Ties With BRICS
The deputy foreign minister for economic affairs said here Tuesday Iran can establish relations with the BRICS group of emerging economies despite being subject to illegal U.S. sanctions.
Mehdi Safari made the remarks in an address to a conference dubbed “Iran and BRICS: Prospects for Partnership and Cooperation” at the Foreign Ministry’s Institute for Political and International Studies.
“Despite cruel unilateral sanctions, Iran has a good capacity for developing ties with the BRICS,” he said, describing the five-nation bloc as one of Tehran’s key partners.

-- Iran honors journalist, diplomats slain in 1998 terrorist raid in Afghanistan
Iran has observed National Reporter Day by remembering the martyrdom anniversary of an Iranian journalist and eight diplomats who lost their lives in a Taliban terrorist attack in the Afghan city of Mazar-i-Sharif in 1988.
On August 8, 1998, the Taliban stormed the Iranian consulate in Mazar-i-Sharif killing journalist Mahmoud Saremi and the eight diplomats. The carnage drew condemnations from all around the world.
Iran has since declared August 8 as National Reporter Day.
-- Iranian Film Week to be held in Tokyo
The 6th Iranian Film Week is scheduled to be held in the Japanese capital of Tokyo in coming days.
According to the cultural attaché of the Iranian Embassy in Japan, the event will be held from August 10 to 14 in Tokyo during which eight Iranian films will be screened. ‘Leaf of Life’ by Ebrahim Mokhtari, ‘Gholamreza Takhti’ by Bahram Tavakoli, ‘The Situation of Mehdi’ by Hadi Hejazifar, and ‘The Miracle of Bonasan' by Habib Ahmadzadeh are among the movies which will go on screen at the event.
The lineup also includes ‘The Warden’ by Nima Javidi, ‘Yadu’ by Mehdi Jafari, ‘Walnut Tree’ by Mohammad Hossein Mahdavian and ‘Bodyguard’ by Ebrahim Hatamikia.
-- UNHCR appreciates Iran for generously hosting refugees
Inna Gladkova, the officer in charge of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Iran, has appreciated the country for generously hosting refugees. She assessed the formation of the National Migration Organization as a positive step in improving the situation of refugees and organizing them, ISNA reported.
She made the remarks in a meeting in Tehran on Thursday, August 3, with Ruhollah Qaderi, the National Migration Organization’s director for international affairs.
