Ahmadian made the remarks in a meeting held with Celso Amorim, special advisor to Brazilian President Lula da Silva, on the sidelines of the National Security Advisors (NSA) meeting of the BRICS group of emerging economies in South Africa, IRNA reported on Tuesday.
Referring to the existence of a long record of cooperation between Iran and Brazil, Ahmadian called for fostering Tehran-Brasilia relations.
He hoped that bilateral ties would increase after the accession of Iran to BRICS soon.
Describing the Islamic Republic as a reliable partner, Amorim expressed Brazils’ readiness to strengthen ties with Iran in various fields.
Iran’s Ahmadian left for South Africa on Monday to attend the 13th NSA meeting of the BRICS friends which was slated for the day for three days. BRICS is a grouping of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa that was formed by the addition of South Africa to the predecessor BRIC in 2010. Iran is one of the countries seeking to join the group.
