Ahvaz, IRNA – A first direct flight from the Iranian southwestern city of Ahvaz to Turkiye’s tourist city of Istanbul has been carried out by domestic carrier Karun Airlines.

CEO of Karun Airlines Mohammad Mahmoudi told IRNA in an interview on Tuesday that a Boeing 737 belonging to the airlines had left Shahid Qasem Soleimani International Airport of Ahvaz, in Khuzestan province, for Istanbul at 7:00 am local time.

Mahmoudi also said that the Ahvaz-Istanbul flight departs at 7:00 am on Tuesdays and Fridays and returns from Istanbul at 12:30 pm on the same days.

He said that launching the direct flight between Ahvaz and Istanbul is in line with government's policy to serve the trade and tourism interests of residents of Khuzestan region.

Before the launch, passengers from Khuzestan had to travel from Ahvaz to the Iranian capital Tehran to be able to fly to Istanbul, said the official.
