In the late 1954, the Tehran Power Plant in Tarasht signed a contract with France’s Alstom to purchase a 50-megabyte factory consisting of four steam units to address the city's electricity shortage. In 1959, Units Three and Four were put into operation, followed by Units One and Two in the same year. The Alstom power plant, now known as "Shahid Firouzi," stands as one of the oldest power plants in Iran and the only electricity production facility located in an urban setting. It operates with four steam units with a capacity of 12.5 megawatts. Photos published on May 24, 2023 show different sections of the Shahid Firouzi Power Plant. (IRNA photos/ Mohsen Vanaei)

In 2018, the power plant obtained the ISO 14001 certification and has undergone several improvements since then, including the improvement of the plant’s wastewater quality for irrigation purposes, the installation of a 1-megawatt CHP (combined heat and power) system, the replacement of boiler pipes, and the transition of the power plant to natural gas usage, among others.
