Tehran, IRNA – Vice-President of the Islamic Republic says dollar domination is on the verge of collapse, noting that de-dollarization is an inevitable response of countries to the weaponization project of the dollar.

Mohammad Mokhber made the remarks on Wednesday at the 51st Asian Clearing Union (ACU) summit, adding that de-dollarization is not a "voluntary choice" by countries, but an inevitable response of countries to the weaponization project of the dollar.

The weaponization of the dollar in the last few decades is one of the most critical factors that have forced countries to seek a way to get rid of the ramifications of dollar sanctions in the future, he said.

He went on to say that countries in today's world are increasingly seeking to ditch the dollar, saying one of the signs of the reduction of countries' dependence on the dollar is the decrease in the share of this currency in the foreign exchange reserves of the nations.

According to the statistics of the International Monetary Fund, the share of the dollar in the foreign exchange reserves of the countries has plunged from 71% in 2000 to 58% in 2022.

Asian Clearing Union (ACU) is holding its 51st edition of the summit in Tehran on May 23-25.

Asian Clearing Union (ACU) is a payment arrangement whereby the participants settle payments for intra-regional transactions among the participating central banks on a net multilateral basis.

The main objectives of the clearing union are to facilitate payments among member countries for eligible transactions, thereby economizing on the use of foreign exchange reserves and transfer costs, as well as promoting trade and banking relations among the participating countries.
