Zahedan, IRNA – A number of civilian and military officials as well as Sunni and Shia scholars have attended a funeral ceremony for five Iranian border guards who were martyred in a terrorist attack in southeastern Iran on the border with Pakistan.

The funeral was held in the city of Zahedan, the capital of the Sistan and Baluchestan province, on Monday and was attended by provincial deputy commander of police forces, commander of border guards, governor-general of the province, as well as people from all walks of life. 

The border guards were martyred in Saravan late on Saturday after terrorists raided a border security checkpoint in the region. The terrorists them retreated to areas in the territory of Pakistan.

As a result of the confrontation, five border guards were martyred and two others were wounded.
