The Iranian official received the Indonesian chief justice in Tehran on Thursday, explaining the duties of the Iranian Supreme Court as well as the structure of the judiciary branch in the Islamic Republic.
Pointing to the fact that the Supreme Court is the highest judicial authority in the Islamic country, Mortazavi Moghadam noted that the Supreme Court is tasked with supervising tribunals’ verdicts and creating unified trend in judicial proceedings.
The Iranian official also expressed hope that continuation of visits by judicial authorities of the two countries can help expand cooperation in terms of judicial agreements in particular inking a memorandum of understanding on transfer of convicts.
For his part, the Indonesian chief justice explained the judiciary system in his country, underlining the need for development of cooperation in different arenas.
On Wednesday, Chief Justice of Iran Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei met with the Indonesian official, stressing the need for expansion of judicial cooperation and exchange of legal experiences between the Islamic Republic and Indonesia.
The Iranian chief justice expressed gratitude to the Indonesian government and judiciary system for their cooperation with the Islamic Republic in recent years, saying that Jakarta and Tehran have had good relationship for more than 70 years and that the ties have improved in recent years.
The trips by the Indonesian president and other high-ranking officials to Iran, as well as the Iranian president and other authorities to Indonesia, along with holding meetings at different levels, have played a key role in enhancing relationships between the two great Islamic countries, Mohseni Ejei noted.
According to the Iranian chief justice, more than 40 Iranian people are imprisoned in Indonesia, and signing of an MoU on transfer of convicts is of great importance.
