Tehran, IRNA - Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and his Italian counterpart Luigi Di Maio in a meeting on Monday called for strengthening bilateral ties.

Amirabdollahian met and held talks on Monday with his Italian counterpart in Rome, Italy.

During a meeting, the two sides called for bolstering bilateral ties and strengthening cooperation and exchanged views on international and regional issues.

Amirabdollahian left Tehran for Rome at the head of a delegation on Monday.

He is scheduled to exchange views with officials in Italy and Vatican City about international, regional, and bilateral issues.

According to the foreign minister, his Rome visit is taking place at the invitation of his Italian counterpart.

As he noted, he has had meetings with his Italian counterpart two times in New York and Munich.

Following up the economic and political cooperation is among the aims of the Rome visit.
