Tehran, IRNA – Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani said that the Islamic Republic is opposed to any move that leads to geopolitical changes in the region.

Shamkhani made the comment on Thursday upon arrival in Armenia’s capital Yerevan where he is scheduled to hold talks with senior officials including his Armenian counterpart as well as Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

The talks will focus on ways to boost Tehran-Yerevan relations and cover the ongoing regional and international developments.

Shamkhani told reporters that his trip is in line with the policy of President Ebrahim Raisi’s administration to boost relations with the neighboring countries.

He also said that Iran believes that peace and stability in the region are enhanced through cooperation among regional countries.

He expressed hope that the ongoing negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan over their long-running territorial dispute results in lasting peace.

The top Iranian security official stressed that his country rejects any move that leads to geopolitical changes in the region.
