Iran sees no limit to upgrade ties with Azerbaijan Republic: Official

Tehran, IRNA – The Islamic Republic of Iran does not have any restriction in improving its relations and mutual cooperation with the Azerbaijan Republic, a top Iranian official said.

Ali Shamkhani, the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), made the remarks during his visit to Baku, capital city of Azerbaijan Republic.

Shamkhani met with Azerbaijan Republic’s President Ilham Aliyev on Friday morning.

The administration of President Ebrahim Raisi gives special importance to deepening and expanding of relationships with neighboring states, he said, adding that the Islamic Republic is determined to develop amicable exchanges with the Muslim nation of Azerbaijan Republic.

Iran has had very good cooperation with Azerbaijan Republic for the past 30 years, Shamkhani noted, arguing that late Heydar Aliyev, former president of Azerbaijan, welcomed friendly ties between the two neighboring countries, and urged for expansion of cooperation.

“In tenure of your Highness, the relations of the two countries are in a pleasant situation, and we are sure that the ties will improve to the excellent level as a result of heeds and efforts made by leaders of both states,” the Iranian official addressed Azerbaijani president.

He further said that there are some players, which are trying to disrupt the bilateral relationship; so, Baku and Tehran should not allow them to create a gap between the two friendly nations.

Shamkhani also expressed hope that coming visit by Ilham Aliyev to Iran will pave the way for big jump in Baku-Tehran ties.

Aliyev, for his part, stated that the relations between Iran and Azerbaijan is based on firm will of leaders of both countries to improve cooperation without being affected by pressures of certain states.

The president described civilizational, cultural and religious commonalities between the two countries as very significant to play a key role in overcoming obstacles in the way of expansion of mutual ties.

The Azerbaijani president expressed readiness to host his Iranian counterpart in Baku, adding that he has visited Iran several times, and that he will travel to Tehran in order to follow up speeding up implementation of joint agreements.
