Speaking in a videoconference with his counterpart from Kazakhstan in the opening ceremony marking the beginning of trans-Iranian rail transit line, on which the first container train reached Iran before departing for Kazakhstan, the president said that role playing in increasing regional proximity by boosting trade though Iran route is one of the priorities of Iran’s foreign policy, and Iran, due to its unique and strategical geographical position, can serve as a link between west and south Asia regions.
The container carrying train that arrived in Kazakhstan today had earlier arrived in Tehran and is scheduled to carry exports goods to Turkey.
President Raisi said in the ceremony videoconference that the president of Kazakhstan’s visit to Tehran was a turning-point and a long stride in boosting bilateral relations.
"I also think it is necessary to appreciate the railway officials of Iran and Kazakhstan for implementing this joint and sustainable work," he added.
The Iranian president underscored that the beginning of activities of this railway can lead to expansion and facilitating of Tehran-Nur Sultan economic and commercial relations, as well as the relations among the other countries that will in the future join this railway.
The president said that Iran route is a safe, economical and fast one, since Iran enjoys having a unique strategical geographical position, that can serve as a regional link between the south and east Asian regions.
He said that the Asian and European countries have welcomed the opening of this corridor, since it saves transportation expenses, time, and the existence of high security in the Islamic Republic of Iran, too, is one of its advantages.
Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, for his part, said that his country’s cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran in lunching this rail corridor is of great importance.
President Tokayev also expressed hope that every single article of Iran-Kazakhstan-Turkey all-rail corridor will be implemented properly.
He also appreciated both sides’ efforts in completing this major project and said he was agreed with President Raisi on the great importance of this corridor in boosting regional proximity.
