Former head of Iran's High Council for Human Rights Mohammad Javad Larijani said in an interview with IRNA that since a West-oriented foreign policy is not in line with the Islamic Republic’s principles, President Raisi and his administration make all-out efforts to lead the country’s foreign policy towards a path appropriate for Iran.
The foreign policy of the administration is based on strategies of a powerful country, Larijani said, noting that Tehran does not close the door of negotiation and dialogue to any other nation even the Americans, so the Iranian officials have asked the US’s authorities to abide by their commitments.
The United States imposed sanctions on Iran’s oil industry, but they are reportedly purchasing Iranian crude oil from middlemen, he argued.
The Raisi administration does not see the world as limited to the US and France, he said, adding that the cabinet tries to correct previous mistakes in foreign policy.
Hence, Tehran seeks to expand relationships with China, Russia, and neighboring states in order to guarantee security and improve cooperation because there are some plots hatched by enemies and some neighbors are trapped in the conspiracies, he added.
Iran as a historical and powerful country does not have any concern about its future and the neighboring states should be aware that the Islamic Republic will never threaten its neighbors’ interests, he mentioned.
The Islamic Republic does not pursue an open-door policy when it comes to cooperating with other states, the politician said, adding that Iran seeks a sort of cooperation with Russia and China that secures the interests of all sides.
Iran–China 25-year Cooperation Program is an appropriate accord, which should be implemented as soon as possible in the form of 4-year, 5-year, and 15-year operational projects.
China has been successful in economic, scientific, and technological fields and the Chinese are even more advanced in some arenas comparing with Western powers, he said.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the politician noted that he is optimistic about the talks in Vienna, Austria, on revival of the 2015 nuclear deal and removal of anti-Iran sanctions, but Iranians should not count on the result of the negotiations to open doors of vast opportunities.
The Iranian negotiators should follow up the talks very technically and precisely to guarantee Iran’s interests, Larijani noted.
