Tehran, IRNA – Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh blasted the anti-Iran allegations in the joint statement of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) and Britain, and said that the statement serves intentions of the infamous promoters of discord who intend to block regional interactions and cooperation.

Khatibzadeh argued that the repetitious and baseless accusation made at the final communique of the PGCC jointly with Britain is issued under such conditions that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always played a responsible role in the promotion of regional peace and stability, and its call for regional interactions and cooperation that is in the same line.

"Unfortunately, some western countries, including Britain, by exporting a flood of modern armaments to some regional countries have become the source of regional tensions and the outbreak of human catastrophes," the Iranian foreign ministry spokesman added.

He stressed that the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in accordance with its strategic viewpoints and fundamental policies, considers regional interactions and cooperation in a bid to resolve the regional problems, and accordingly, welcomes constructive initiatives in that line.

The foreign ministry spokesman said that Iran has always remained committed to its commitments in the non-proliferation treaty (NPT) and its additional protocol, and it is entitled to benefit from the peaceful privileges of he nuclear energy.
