Moscow, IRNA –Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri said here on Sunday that Iran and Russia will increase the level of their military cooperation in line with the 13th government’s eastward look policy.

Major General Baqeri made the comment upon arrival in Moscow in response to an IRNA correspondent question who had asked: Is this visit in line with the 13th government’s eastward look policy?

“President Ebrahim Raisi has a special look at the east and the Asian countries, and the beginning of Iran’s membership at Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), too, was incidentally at the beginning of his tenure as president,” he added.

The high brass military commander said that the cooperation between the armed forces of Iran and Russia will therefore further expand.

Afghanistan issue to be surveyed exclusively

He said that the visit is made on an invitation extended by the Russian defense minister.

“In addition to bilateral ties, we will exclusively focus on Afghanistan issue, because the developments in Afghanistan will have effects on all regional countries, including the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation,” Major General Baqeri said.
