Islamabad, IRNA -- The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Pakistan has announced readiness to expand cooperation with member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in the field of science and technology.

Mohammad Ali Hosseini met with Dr. Mohammad Iqbal Choudhary, the Coordinator General of the Standing Committee on Science and Technology of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (COMSTECH) in Islamabad on Friday.

The two sides discussed the activities of the COMSTECH, as well as its plans to develop science and technology projects among the member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

Close cooperation in creating science and technology parks and improving the level of activity of the existing parks by using the capacities of the Islamic Republic of Iran with other member countries of this committee were other topics discussed in this meeting.

The ambassador of Iran and the Secretary General of the Standing Committee on Science and Technology of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation also discussed the exchange of students and the expansion of cooperation between the universities of the member countries of the OIC.

On May 22 this year Iqbal Choudhary had briefed the Iranian ambassador about all activities of COMSTECH and plans for the development of Science and Technology projects in OIC member states.

The 15th General Assembly of the Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (COMSTECH) was held in mid-June 2016 in Islamabad, hosted by the Government of Pakistan.

Pakistan was supposed to host the head of COMSTECH summit in 2015, but due to special circumstances in the country, including security issues, Islamabad twice postponed the meeting, and finally the privilege of hosting the COMSTECH summit was transferred to Kazakhstan.
