Shamkhani made the remarks in a meeting in Tehran with visiting Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi in reference to US inclusion of the Zionist regime in the CENTCOM mechanism.
He said that there are huge capacities for enhancement of relations between Tehran and Tokyo which require Japan’s further interaction with the new Iranian administration.
The official underlined the significance of protecting the international waterways, saying Iran regards the presence of foreign forces in the Persian Gulf as disruptive to the stability and sustainable security of the region.
The Japanese foreign minister, for his part, expressed hope that with the formation of the new Iranian government, bilateral relations between Iran and Japan will expand more than ever.
Motegi noted that in order to be able to revive a 2015 Iran nuclear deal – known as JCPOA – the US government has to stop making excessive demands.
He urged the necessity for further cooperation in the fight against the coronavirus disease and sharing experiences in this regard.
