“Pleased to host Japanese FM Motegi in Tehran on Sunday,” Zarif wrote in a tweet.
“In what is probably my last meeting with a counterpart as Iran’s foreign minister, we discussed strengthening bilateral relations, how to resuscitate the JCPOA and the catastrophic US-engineered situation in Afghanistan,” added the tweet.
Zarif is leaving office in a matter of a few days, as the Parliament is going to hold a confidence vote for ministers nominated by newly elected President Ebrahim Raisi this week.
Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi arrived at Tehran early on Sunday to meet Iranian officials on bilateral and international issues.
