Islamabad, June 19, IRNA -- Chairman of Pakistan's Senate on Saturday congratulated Iran's President-elect Ebrahim Raisi for his victory in the 13th presidential election.

While extending heartfelt greetings, Mohammad Sadiq Sanjrani in a statement prayed for the success of Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi.

He said the newly-elected Iranian President is a friend of Pakistan and under his leadership Pakistan-Iran friendship will be further strengthened.

"I congratulate him on behalf of Parliament, Government and people of Pakistan," Sanjrani said.

He added Pakistan attaches great importance to bilateral relations with Iran.

Sanjrani went on to say the region's leadership must work together for regional security and peace.

He said that the newly-elected President Ebrahim Raisi has vast experience.

“It is hoped that new avenues for regional cooperation and coordination will be paved during his tenure as President of Iran," said Chairman Senate.

He was of the view that religious, social and cultural similarities can play an important role in bringing Iran and Pakistan further close to each other.

Iran’s 13th presidential election was held simultaneously with the sixth round of municipal council elections for the cities and villages, the first mid-term for 11th round of parliamentary by-election, and the second mid-term for the fifth round of Assembly of Experts' election.
