In reaction to the reporters' questions about the verdict issued by a court in Canada regarding the downing of the Ukrainian airliner, Khatibzadeh said that the vote in question lacks the basis and does not have objective evidence and reasons.
Referring to the incompetence of the Canadian court to comment on an air accident abroad and outside its territory and jurisdiction, he stated that it is predictable that Canada will not comply with the basic legal principles by considering Canada's behavioral set on this issue.
He noted that even the domestic law invoked by the court is contrary to legal principles and is a violation of Canada's international obligations.
Lamenting Canada's behavior on the issue of Ukrainian airliners and a purely political approach to the application of judicial procedures by Canada, he reiterated that the Canadian court, following the US courts, first appointed the defendant, then resorted to any relevant or irrelevant information contained in public sources, especially cyberspace, to find a reason for its biased and predetermined mentality.
He highlighted that this behavior of a Canadian judge in compliance with political orders and stereotypes, and it is considered shameful for a country claiming to support the rule of law.
Calling the Canadian government's actions unacceptable, including a recent court verdict in the country, he noted that these politicized and harassment attempts will result in nothing but disrupting the legal order governing international aviation law and undermining international law as a whole and harming all countries, including Canada.
Instead of Canada's short-sighted political goals, Iran calls on the Government of Canada to show the behavior of a state of maturity instead of pretending to be active concerning this unfortunate incident and to act according to internationally recognized rules and respect for principles, Khatibzadeh underscored.
