Rasht, Feb 12, IRNA – An earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale rocked Gilan Province in northern Iran on Wednesday.

According to the Seismological Center of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the tremor occurred at 14:23 hours local time (10:54 GMT) and at the depth of 18 km underground. The area is already under heavy snow.

No report has so far been released on the likely casualties or damage to the property.

Iran sits on major faultlines and is prone to near-daily earthquakes.
