Islamabad, March 14, IRNA - Pakistan Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad has sought cooperation of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) in restoring rail network among Islamabad, Tehran, Istanbul, state media reported.

The minister said this during a meeting with Iranian Secretary General of ECO Dr. Hadi Soleimanpour in Islamabad.

He said the government was giving priority to foreign investment in the country.

Both sides during the meeting agreed to enhance coordination among Iran, Pakistan and Turkey to restore regional rail network.

According to Pakistan Railways spokesperson the ECO Secretary General assured complete support to Pakistan on behalf of the organization.

Dr. Hadi Soleimanpour highlighted that services of the ECO Trade and Development Bank could be utilized for financial partnership by its member countries.

During the meeting, Sheikh Rasheed briefed Dr. Hadi on ongoing mega railroad projects, including ML-2 and ML-3, as well as upgradation of Quetta-Taftan railway track.

ECO Secretary General is visiting Pakistan on March 12-15, 2019. This is his first visit to Pakistan since he assumed office as the Secretary General of the Organization.

Pakistan Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad has just completed his three-day official visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran during which he met with Iranian leaders, including President Hassan Rouhani.

He also attended the opening ceremony of Qazvin-Rasht-Astara railway route.
