Tehran, IRNA -- Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has told his Serbian counterpart that the Islamic Republic attaches importance to its relations with the European country.

Amirabdollahian and Serbia’s Foreign Minister Ivica Dačić talked on the phone on Sunday, discussing relations between their countries.

The top Iranian diplomat said that his country respects Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, adding that the Islamic Republic’s policy is to support security and stability in the Balkan region.

The promotion of co-existence among different ethnic groups and followers of various religions is also a main policy of Iran, he added.

The Serbian foreign minister expressed satisfaction with close interactions between high-ranking officials of the two countries, and announced Serbia’s solidarity with Iran.

He also said that independent governments need to enhance cooperation in the face of attempts by some Western countries to put pressure on them through adopting double standards and using international bodies as a tool to achieve their goals.

The two foreign ministers stressed the need for further expansion of ties between their countries.
