Citing Article 51 of the UN Charter, which allows for legitimate defense, Iran defended its actions as warranted in the face of perceived threats, the Iranian mission in New York said in a statement quoted by IRNA.
"Conducted on the strength of Article 51 of the UN Charter pertaining to legitimate defense, Iran’s military action was in response to the Zionist regime’s aggression against our diplomatic premises in Damascus. The matter can be deemed concluded. However, should the Israeli regime make another mistake, Iran’s response will be considerably more severe. It is a conflict between Iran and the rogue Israeli regime, from which the US MUST STAY AWAY!", according to a post shared by the Iranian mission on X social media platform.
Iran's response to Israel comes in the wake of the Zionist regime’s airstrike on the consular section of the Iranian embassy in Damascus, Syria.
Iran's UN mission also said that if the Security Council had condemned the Zionist regime's attack on embassy and subsequently prosecuted its perpetrators, perhaps it would be necessary for Iran to punish this arrogant regime.
The statement was referring to the three countries of the United States, Britain and France, as well as their allies, South Korea and Japan, that not only did not condemn the Israeli attack on the Iranian embassy, but also prevented the issuance of a UN Security Council statement on the attack.
