Tehran, IRNA - Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi described the presence of Iran and Russia in important regional organizations such as Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRICS, as well as the efforts to implement the agreements made between the two countries, including the construction of the Rasht-Astara railway, as suitable grounds for developing economic cooperation.

Speaking in a phone call with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Tuesday, Raisi expressed hope that the start of the new Russian government will pave the ground for expanding the relations and constructive cooperation between Iran and Russia in various fields.

Referring to the continuation of the Zionist regime's crimes against the oppressed and powerful people of Gaza, he emphasized the need for effective international action to stop the Zionists' criminal attacks of the Zionists and to lift the blockade and provide massive relief to the people of Gaza.

Elaborating on the sensitive developments and movements in the South Caucasus region, he emphasized Iran's readiness to maintain the stability of the region and the strategic interests of the country.

Meanwhile, Putin pointed to the imminent finalization of the draft comprehensive cooperation agreement between Iran and Russia.

The successful holding of the meeting of the joint commission for economic cooperation between the two countries in Tehran, as well as the 77% growth in trade between Iran and Russia are positive signs of the improvement of Tehran-Moscow cooperation, he added.

He considered the presence of Iran and Russia in the BRICS and SCO as a valuable opportunity to deepen the interactions between the two sides.

The two countries have similar positions on the issue of Israel's attacks on Gaza, and Russia is ready to cooperate more effectively with Iran in this field.
