Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s new ambassador to South Africa Mansour Shakib Mehr has met with Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollhian before departing for Pretoria to start his diplomatic mission.

During the meeting held on Monday, Shakib Mehr briefed Amirabdollhian about the current situation of relations between Iran and South Africa as well as about his plans to work as Iran’s new ambassador in Pretoria.

Amirabdollhian wished success for the new envoy and called for the implementation of agreements signed between Iran and South Africa as part of an intergovernmental committee held between the two sides.

He said that Iran and South Africa have major potentials to boost their bilateral relations especially because of their membership in the BRICS alliance of emerging economies.

Shakib Mehr has served as Director of Western Europe Division II in the Iranian Foreign Ministry and as Iran’s ambassador to Ivory Coast.
